SOURCE OF PROBLEM: bad paint job. If paint is peeling, it means the previous surface likely was not sanded.
SOLUTION: Flake off as much as possible. Prep. Paint.
tl;dr
PROCEDURE:
Take a putty knife and chip off all the paint possible from the panel. You could touch up, but it’ll be visible. At least with a panel, it’ll be uniform. Thankfully, the color is Swiss Coffee, so it’s pretty universal. Takes a little more time to prep and paint, but we’re talking about the difference of taking 5 minutes vs taking 20 minutes.
Cut the edges first.
Then paint the rest.
Don’t overbrush & make sure to put enough paint.
If it doesn’t come out even, don’t stress. Let it dry completely. Lightly sand with 120 grit, wipe it down with a clean rag, repaint.
TOOLS:
- Putty knives (yes, plural. I tested several, on some jobs the plastic one will work better than the metal one, etc…)
- dust pan, vac to clean up the mess
- paint
- paint key
- paint brush (since it was done previous with a brush, and the other panels were brushed, paint brush for consistency)
